In a destination known for luxury, the challenge was to bring a new level of sophistication to a prestigious nautical site. Dubai Harbour’s Pier Club combines spatial clarity, carefully considered details and a seamless connection with the water to extend a very special welcome to discerning visitors, whether arriving by superyacht or the landside promenade.

Rather than treating the water as a backdrop, the design uses light, views and materiality to bring the marina into the everyday experience of the building.

Ben Corrigan, Principal Director

An elegant, contemporary destination that would complement the maritime setting, while delivering a memorable new guest experience.

TP Bennett Bluehaus was appointed by Shamal Holding, a leading Dubai investment and development company, to design the new Dubai Harbour Pier Club in the heart of one the city’s most iconic districts. Forming part of the wider Dubai Harbour masterplan, the Pier Club is positioned to benefit from the harbour’s world-class marina, superyacht berthing facilities and direct access to the Arabian Gulf.

The development sits within a sequence of residential, retail and hospitality experiences that have been carefully curated to meet the needs of an exclusive clientele of yacht owners and visitors. This context established the clear design direction for an elegant, contemporary destination that would complement the maritime setting, while delivering a memorable new guest experience.

Experiential-led approach

Spanning 21,000 square feet, the Pier Club combines high-end restaurants and dining concepts with a range of hospitality-led experiences. The design approach reflects the expectations of an international audience and blends luxury, comfort and understated elegance with a strong sense of place. To achieve this, the design process was iterative, as the team tested different strategies to ensure the ideal response to both site and operational demands. Particular attention was given to maximising views across the marina, with thermally efficient full-height glazing, shaded by the overhang of the roof canopy. In its materials and form, the building references the waterfront context with a palette of refined, durable materials suited to a coastal environment.

The Pier Club is designed to act as both international destination and local social hub, where visitors can arrive directly from their yachts or via the landside promenade. The open layout is designed to support this natural flow and routes through spaces are planned to create their own engaging spatial journey.

Contributing to the broader Dubai Harbour vision, the building has been planned in harmony with the surrounding developments. Guided by a deep understanding of its context and audience, the architecture aims to enhance Dubai Harbour’s reputation as one of the region’s most exclusive, discerning waterfront destinations.

We were interested in how arrival shapes experience – and how architecture can connect water, building and place in one continuous journey.
