We have experience in a wide range of sectors. Details of these sectors and our approach can be found listed below:
-
+ Education +
At the heart of all vibrant and healthy communities is education, whether it occurs in the workplace, home, public realm or in schools and colleges. The challenge is to provide effective architectural solutions for all these different learning environments.
Our track record in delivering award-winning education buildings with knowledge imported from our other sectoral experience, enables us to offer responsive and unique design options, supporting the diverse needs of this sector.
-
+ Financial +
Financial institutions need to demonstrate to both shareholders and management that projects attain best-in-class sector benchmarking.
We have gathered benchmark data from our wide experience internationally across the financial sector to develop intelligent tools which can both predict space requirements and provide the context of background sector metrics.
-
+ Health +
Health provision and aspiration is constantly evolving, demanding that the built environment is flexible enough to adapt to constant change and innovation.
We provide award-winning patient-focused environments for these evolving healthcare requirements by harnessing the best from our experience in a wide range of building types. We have created environments across the healthcare spectrum in both the public and private sectors.
-
+ Hospitality & Leisure +
This sector is about providing desirable environments in which people choose to spend their precious leisure time. For the developer or operator this means understanding a sophisticated and demanding clientele and then through good design, encouraging return visits.
Our role as designers is to imbue these environments with a sense of place and to create memorable destinations.
-
+ Legal +
The practice of law is changing as the variables of demographics, competition, technological innovations, global service and increased mobility are impacting the profession. While law firms share industry sector challenges there are clear opportunities to develop client-specific workplace solutions to differentiate the firm from their competitors.
We have designed and delivered over 1.6 million sq ft for a range of UK and US legal occupiers over the last 12 years. Our extensive knowledge and experience of the working practices and trends pertaining to the legal sector has enabled us to deliver strong, dynamic real estate strategies and working environments for our clients.
-
+ Listed Buildings & Conservation +
Re-use of existing buildings makes sense: it is sustainable, economically advantageous and reinforces a sense of place.
We bring together a wide range of historic building design skills with a contemporary and pragmatic approach to architecture, and have built an excellent working relationship with local and national conservation authorities in the UK and overseas.
Director, Nick Hirst was awarded the Lethaby Scholarship from an international shortlist in 1999, spending a year studying traditional building techniques for the repair of historic fabric, and the introduction of contemporary architecture into historic contexts on site around the UK.
-
+ Media +
A successful media workplace must energise and inspire a diverse workforce of creatives, designers, journalists, analysts and engineers, enabling them to collaborate and work together productively in a 24/7 environment.
It is essential to get under the skin of an organisation to understand their ethos, drivers and ambitions in order to design a workplace unique to them that will reflect these values and goals.
-
+ Office Space +
Our waking time is mainly divided between home and office. We need to take as much care in the design and choice of our workplaces as we would with our own home, in order to create environments appropriate for all the different activities that take place there.
Our expertise in both the design of speculative office buildings and in the fit-out of office space for major occupiers across many business sectors, enables in-house knowledge transfer that informs our new office designs at planning stage. We have a long track record of new build developer schemes, headquarters buildings and business space, in their refurbishment and alteration, and in the creation of workplaces for occupiers, winning many BCO, Agents and other industry awards along the way.
-
+ Public Sector +
Many buildings are inefficient in space utilisation, energy performance and fitness for purpose. Against a backdrop of tighter public sector finances it can still make economic sense to review occupational strategies and rationalise the use of space.
Our combined workplace and strategic masterplanning expertise can resolve site, spatial and budget issues to deliver sustainable and flexible workplaces that improve staff efficiency and morale while also improving services to the public.
-
+ Residential +
The design of apartments or houses requires a knowledge and understanding of the target market whether that is a tenant, a first-time buyer or an oligarch.
We are experienced in the vast spectrum of residential accommodation, understanding both the rules and regulations that influence it and lifestyles that will shape it, from social housing through to penthouses.
-
+ Retail & Regeneration +
Many towns which appear to have all the necessary ingredients for a successful town centre are undermined by vacant units, absence of some key major brands and their retail footfall seems to be leaking elsewhere.
We are the market leader in developing attractive and effective design solutions that unlock the potential of existing town centres and improve their standing in the regional retail hierarchy. We focus not only on the buildings but on the spaces framed by them: we create distinctive and memorable places which build upon and enrich the existing character of the town.
-
+ Store Design +
Good retail design creates the environment in which retailers can best display their goods and brand and customers can enjoy their shopping experience.
We have expertise in the design and delivery of award-winning major shopping centres and urban malls in the UK and overseas. For major brands we create new concepts and deliver their established fit-out designs globally.
-
+ Student Residential +
Universities are increasingly unable to meet the demand for student accommodation in a burgeoning higher education sector. Governments funding constraints and restrictive city centre campuses have opened the market to private sector involvement to meet this demand.
We are leaders in the design of these privately funded halls of residence on well-placed sites that are able to offer a wider variety of accommodation types in secure and self-contained environments.
-
+ Transport +
Public transport is at the heart of all planning policy, whether at local, regional or national level. It enables sustainable development planning and it is unsurprising that rail passenger growth targets are constantly being revised upwards.
We are currently designing a new major station at London Bridge, one of the most complicated transport interchanges in Europe, to cope with the increased capacity for trains and passengers. Our expertise has enabled us to advise Crossrail on the oversite development potential above several of their proposed central zone stations and access sites, while our expertise in the design of major bus station interchanges underpins many of our larger town centre regeneration projects.
-
+ Urban Design +
Good places enrich our lives and lift the spirit. People are then attracted to live, work and spend leisure time there, creating mixed and sustainable communities. Good urban design is about making sense of the places between buildings as well as the buildings themselves.
We can provide an integrated service that combines robust contextual analysis with architectural design and planning expertise to deliver successful outcomes for both clients and local communities.
